The city of Ibicoara is located in the Chapada Diamantina.

The municipality emerged in the 19th century with the arrival of prospectors in the chapada in search of gold. Initially known as “São Bento village”, the city served as a resting point for those who left Mucugê and Andaraí.
History of Ibicoara
Ibicoara emerged in the early nineteenth century with the arrival of some prospectors looking for gold. The village of São Bento, as it was initially known, became a resting point for tropeiros and prospectors traveling to Mucugê or Andaraí. There, coffee culture (still strongly present today) and cattle breeding emerged.
The village was renamed Igarassu and, in the 1940s, became a district with the name of Ibicoara, being emancipated from Mucugê in 1962.
The festivities inherited from the ancestors (Festa de S. Bento and Reisado), the June festival and the carnival stand out.
Some of the town’s typical dishes include godó or banana cutlets, beiju and couscous. Currently, the coffee and potato crops stand out.
