Areia Vermelha em João Pessoa, Paraíba

Top Tourist Attractions in Paraíba

Paraíba, in the north-east of Brazil, is a state of natural beauty, rich history and vibrant culture. Its beaches, historic towns and cultural events make it a fascinating destination.

With 117 km of coastline, Paraíba enchants visitors with beaches such as Baía da Traição, Barra de Mamanguape, Coqueirinho, Tambaba (the first official nudist beach in the North-East) and Intermares. There are also cliffs, dunes, rivers and forests for ecotourism.

João Pessoa, the capital, is where the sun rises first in the Americas, at Ponta do Seixas. Founded in 1585, it is the third oldest city in Brazil and has been awarded the ‘Tree Cities of the World’ from the UN/FAO, and is home to the Benjamim Maranhão Botanical Garden, covering 515 hectares — considered the world’s largest flat, native semi-equatorial forest densely surrounded by an urban area.

In the interior, there are footpaths, waterfalls, caves, hot springs and archaeological sites such as Lajedo de Pai Mateus and the Ingá Archaeological Site. In the Sertão, rock formations and dinosaur fossils are particularly noteworthy.
