Coqueirinho Beach, in Conde, is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast of Paraíba. Colourful cliffs, a sea of varying shades of green, rock formations and numerous coconut palms create a setting that usually enchants those who visit João Pessoa and decide to extend their stay in the region.
It is located about 35 km south of the capital and is very popular with families, couples and groups looking for a good range of beach huts, restaurants and activities.

Quick tips
- Distance: approximately 35 km south of João Pessoa.
- Access: via the PB-008 motorway, followed by a short stretch of dirt road.
- Beach: sections of the sea that are generally calmer and others with stronger waves.
- Profile: tends to appeal to families, couples and those who enjoy walks and being in touch with nature.
Beauty and weather
The sandy beach is relatively wide, with several coconut palms providing natural shade in various spots. The sea is usually a mix of green and blue hues, with shallow, more sheltered areas, particularly near rock formations which, at low tide, can form natural pools.
The weather tends to be warm for most of the year. Generally speaking, the driest months – often between September and March – tend to offer more sunny days and clearer water, which enhances the beach’s appeal.

Things to do in Coqueirinho
Buggy tours
Buggy tours are one of the region’s most traditional activities. They usually cover Coqueirinho and other nearby beaches, stopping at cliffs, viewpoints and, on some routes, at medicinal clay sites, where visitors can enjoy the famous “clay bath”.
Many of these tours are run by licensed buggy drivers or by agencies based in João Pessoa or on the southern coast itself.
Quad biking and tree-top adventure
In certain areas, it is possible to book quad bike tours, during which visitors usually drive the vehicle themselves, typically on routes lasting around an hour. The routes may include trails, viewing points and areas close to the cliffs.
Some operators also offer tree-top adventure courses, featuring suspension bridges, abseiling and rope ladders, combining a touch of adventure with stunning views of the surrounding area.
Swimming in the sea and natural pools
In one part of the beach, reefs help to create areas of calmer water at low tide, which are often popular with families with children and those who prefer calmer waters.
Elsewhere, however, the sea is more open and may have stronger waves, attracting those who enjoy water sports or a more lively swim, though care should always be taken to check the conditions on the day.
Cuisine and facilities
Coqueirinho has a number of beachfront stalls and restaurants, which generally serve snacks, regional dishes and seafood.
One of the best-known establishments is the Coqueirinho Canyon, often mentioned for its “Coqueirinho moqueca”, made with fish, prawns and lobster, amongst other seafood options.
In many places, the use of chairs and parasols is usually subject to a minimum spend at the establishment. There are also car parks near the beach, making it easier for those arriving by car to get there.
Dedo de Deus Viewpoint
The Dedo de Deus Viewpoint is one of the region’s best-known vantage points. Situated on high ground, it offers a panoramic view of Coqueirinho, with cliffs, a stretch of sand and the sea in the background.
The viewpoint is usually included in buggy and quad bike tours and often provides great photo opportunities on days when visibility is good.

How to get there
- By car: leaving João Pessoa, take the PB-008 southbound. The turn-off for Coqueirinho Beach is usually well signposted, and the final stretch is generally a dirt track in reasonable condition for passenger cars.
- With a tour: various agencies and buggy operators offer day trips that include Coqueirinho and other beaches, departing from both João Pessoa and various points along the south coast.
Nearby beaches
- Tambaba: famous for its official naturist beach and its cliffs and natural pools.
- Tabatinga: is usually a quieter beach, with viewing points and, at certain times of year, the chance to spot dolphins.
Coqueirinho Beach offers stunning scenery, excellent facilities and a range of activities, and is often cited as a must-visit destination for anyone wishing to explore the coast of Paraíba in greater depth.
