About me

My name is Willy Sievert, and I have been in charge of content at Bahia.ws since the site was founded in 2009. Based in Salvador, I have visited over 150 destinations across the Brazilian Northeast — from capital cities such as Salvador and Natal to little-known villages such as Galinhos and Baixio.

I’ve been in love with Brazil ever since I was a child. I’ve visited many different parts of the world, but the diversity I’ve found in Brazil is unrivalled — that’s what brought me to Salvador and has kept me here, travelling around the North-East year after year for the past 40 years. In 2009, I decided to turn this passion into a project and set up Bahia.ws, where I have been writing ever since, always committed to visiting the places I recommend in person whenever possible, or checking carefully with local sources when that isn’t feasible.

What qualifies me to write about this

  • Field experience: 100 documented trips across the North-East over the course of 40 years travelling through the region, with the last 16 years devoted to recording and updating this knowledge on Bahia.ws
  • Relevant education/work experience: journalism, tourism and geography
  • Local network: direct contact with local guides and municipal tourism organisations in all the regions covered, used to verify information before publication
  • Update process: I review the published guides every 12 months to correct out-of-date information

How can you trust what I write?

Every guide I publish adheres to the same criteria: numerical data (distances, population figures, prices) checked against official sources such as the IBGE and local councils; recommendations based on my own visits or on verifiable local sources; and regular updates to keep the information current. When I am unsure about any particular piece of information, I prefer to make this clear in the text rather than risk providing incorrect information.

If you notice any out-of-date information or have a suggestion about a destination, please email me at contato@bahia.ws — I read and reply to all emails personally.
