Skydiving in Bahia: An Unforgettable Experience

Discover skydiving and BASE jumping in Bahia

Skydiving in Bahia

Skydiving is a sport practiced by athletes (parachutists) who jump from airplanes or fixed locations (BASE jumping). They use a parachute, which is a canopy with a folded sail that unfolds, increasing its contact surface with the air and allowing the speed of the fall to be reduced. This makes it possible to jump from high altitudes without suffering bodily harm.

Differences between skydiving and BASE jumping

The main difference between skydiving and BASE jumping is the origin of the jumps and the heights at which they are performed.

  • Skydiving: Jumps are made from aircraft, such as planes or helicopters, at high altitudes, usually between 3,000 and 4,000 metres or more. Skydivers jump and open their parachutes during freefall, allowing more time for manoeuvres.
  • BASE JUMPING: Jumps are made from fixed structures (buildings, antennae, bridges or cliffs). Jumpers usually jump from lower heights, resulting in a shorter free fall time and parachutes opening almost immediately after the jump. Because of the lower heights and the nature of the structures, BASE jumping is considered riskier.
