Esta importante e antiga carta do porto mostra o Rio janeiro em forma de plano de bloco. Todas as ilhas e características costeiras com muitas sondagens e ancoradouros estão representadas. Do outro lado do Rio, na foz da Baía de Guanabara, há uma lagoa chamada Lagoa de Pirate Ningo. Uma bela rosa dos ventos com flor-de-lis e linhas de rumo embelezam esta carta gravada em cobre. Marinheiro e hidrógrafo francês, D' Après de Mannevillette (1707-1780) utilizou novos instrumentos para corrigir as latitudes medidas por exploradores anteriores. This important old harbour chart shows Rio de Janeiro in block plan form.

All the islands and coastal features are shown, with many soundings and anchorages. On the other side of the Rio, at the mouth of Guanabara Bay, is a lagoon called Lagoa de Pirate Ningo.

A beautiful compass rose with fleur-de-lis and rhumb lines decorate this copper engraved map.

The French navigator and hydrographer D’ Après de Mannevillette (1707-1780) used new instruments to correct the latitudes measured by earlier explorers.

His atlas Le Neptune Oriental, first published in 1745, was considered a great achievement and an indispensable resource for navigators.
