The New Bahians: The musical revolution of Bahia in the 1960s and 1970s
The Novos Baianos were formed in Bahia in the 1960s by Paulinho Boca de Cantor, Pepeu Gomes, Moraes Moreira, Dadi, Galvão, Jorginho, Baixinho, Bolacha and Baby.
The group made their debut with the show “Desembarque dos Bichos Depois do Dilúvio Universal” in 1968.

Participation in festivals and release of the first album
The Novos Baianos took part in the V Festival de Música Popular Brasileira (5th Brazilian Popular Music Festival) on TV Record in 1969 and recorded their first album, “É Ferro na Boneca”.

Move to Rio de Janeiro
In 1971 they moved to Rio de Janeiro, where they lived in a penthouse in the Botafogo district. At that time, singer-songwriter João Gilberto spent some time with the group and had a decisive influence on their musical direction, which changed from rock to MPB (Brazilian popular music).
Community life and the launch of “Acabou Chorare
The following year, the Novos Baianos moved to a farm in Jacarepaguá, where they lived communally. In 1972 they released Acabou Chorare a27>, an album which, with its mix of rock, samba, frevo and choro, influenced performers, composers and bands from then on.
The end of the group and solo careers
The group Os Novos Baianos broke up in 1978, and virtually all of its members pursued solo careers. In 1997, composer Galvão wrote the book Anos 70: Novos e Baianos (The 70s: New and Bahian).
