Ivete Sangalo full biography: The Queen of Axé and her influence on Brazilian music
Early life and career
Ivete Sangalo was born in Juazeiro, in the interior of Bahia, into a family of musicians. She began singing as a child and later played the guitar during school holidays.
She also performed at family gatherings, where she was responsible for the percussion.
These early moments were fundamental in awakening his passion for music. At the age of 17, he moved to Salvador to work as a model, but he couldn’t resist his passion for music, which had always been his dream.

First steps in music
Like most musicians, he started out playing in small bars, then did a few shows in cities in the interior of Bahia, and finally performed in Pernambuco.
In her hometown, she was invited to open the show for Geraldo Azevedo at the João Gilberto Cultural Centre Theatre. Back in Bahia’s capital, she was invited to participate in a micareta in the town of Morro do Chapéu.

Rise in Banda Eva
There she met producer Jonga Cunha, founder of Bloco Eva. This marked the beginning of Ivete’s reign in Banda Eva, with whom she released six albums, selling over four million copies. During her time with the band, Banda Eva released a total of six albums.
Solo career
Currently, Ivete Sangalo’s solo career has sold over 6,500,000 albums to date. Previously, in 1992, she won the Dorival Caymmi trophy for best female performer.
Her solo career officially began at the end of Ash Wednesday 1999, her last carnival with Banda Eva. During April, May and June of that year, she recorded the 14 tracks for her debut solo album, Ivete Sangalo.
New releases and hits
She then released Beat Beleza and began her national tour in Salvador. She always starts in the capital of Bahia, as she insists, at the same exhibition centre where she released her third solo album, Festa, at the end of 2001.
In August 2003, she released her fourth solo album, Clube Carnavalesco, Inocentes em Progresso. In March 2004, she released the album MTV Ao Vivo Ivete Sangalo.
In 2005 she released AS SUPERNOVAS. Like everything Ivete touches, the new album is fun, spontaneous, extroverted, but at the same time sensual, as you can see from the photos and the cover, which was inspired by the characteristics of the 70s and 80s.
Recent awards
In 2006, Ivete Sangalo received awards for Best Female Vocalist and Best Song for the hit ballad Quando a Chuva Passar, which was a success in Brazil and Portugal on the TV show Domingão do Faustão. Ivete was voted Personality of the Year by the magazine Isto É Gente.
Multishow ao Vivo: Ivete no Maracanã is the best-selling DVD in the world by Universal Music, with more than 750,000 copies sold, and is currently the best-selling DVD in the history of Brazilian music.
In 2023, Ivete Sangalo released her latest album, ‘Ivete Sangalo Live Experience’, which has already become a hit, further consolidating her career and influence in Brazilian music.
Cultural influence
Ivete Sangalo is considered one of the greatest exponents of Axé and Brazilian music.
Her infectious energy and vibrant performances helped popularise the genre, especially during Carnival, where she became one of the most eagerly awaited performers at parades and parties.
She also contributed to the visibility of Bahian music throughout Brazil and abroad.
Collaborations and participation
Ivete has collaborated with several renowned artists such as Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Anitta and Wesley Safadão, broadening her musical horizons. Her performances at festivals such as Rock in Rio have also demonstrated her universal appeal and versatility.

Ivete Sangalo is married to Daniel Cady with whom she has two children, Marcelo and Helena. She often shares moments from her family life on social media, showing a more personal side to her fans. Her balance between family and career is admired and serves as an inspiration to many.
