Mucuri and the Costa Dourada: A natural paradise in the south of Bahia
Mucuri and the Costa Dourada, located in the extreme south of Bahia, on the Costa das Baleias, are a virtually untouched natural fortress, formed by a rich combination of ecosystems such as Atlantic Forest, Restinga, Mangroves, Dunes and beautiful Beaches.
The origin of the name “Costa Dourada” is related to the golden sands that characterise the region. The sun shines on these sands and reflects a light that gives the coast a golden appearance, creating a stunning landscape.

Ecotourism in Mucuri
The town of Mucuri is an ideal destination for lovers of ecotourism, offering lush landscapes and experiences in harmony with nature.
The colonisation of this area was delayed by the absence of precious metal mines and the presence of the feared Botocudo Indians, known for being aggressive and anthropophagous warriors.
The history of Mucuri
The history of Mucuri began to change with the arrival of German and Swiss colonisers in the south of Bahia, when coffee farms sprang up and gave rise to the town of Mucuri, located on the banks of the Mucuri River.

Local economy
The local population is currently engaged in shrimping, fishing, farming and the cultivation of papaya and coconuts.
In addition, Mucuri, which borders Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, is a holiday centre for tourists from these states. The town is forested and has a good tourist infrastructure, with hotels, bars and restaurants.
Culture and festivals
Summer in Mucuri is characterised by a cheerful and lively atmosphere. Folkloric manifestations stand out during commemorative dates, such as the marujada, which represents the battles between Christians and Moors on Saint Joseph’s Day, on 19 March, and the caboclinhos dance, a performance with indigenous roots, accompanied by flutes and fife.
Mucuri’s coastline
Mucuri’s 50-kilometre coastline is full of wild beaches, ideal for those seeking tranquillity and natural beauty.
