1. Andorinhas Waterfall (12m) – Mucugê
The Cachoeira das Andorinhas is one of the most accessible routes for those who don’t have a car and want to visit a waterfall from the town of Mucugê. Access is via a walk of just 2 km on a dirt road that leads to the trail, which is located within the National Park.
The trail
The trail is 2 kilometres long and can be walked in about 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace. The path climbs a little into the hills, and from the viewpoint you can enjoy panoramic views of the Mucugê River Valley, from which the town takes its name.
Vegetation and culture
After the viewpoint, the trail continues up the mountain in an area of predominantly rocky vegetation, interspersed with century-old structures from old mining sites, such as tanks, water diversions and a cave that can be visited for rest and shade.
Cumbucas River Viewpoint
Before reaching the waterfall, there is a viewpoint over the Cumbucas River, famous for being the first place where diamonds were found in the Chapada Diamantina. Nearby is the Andorinhas Waterfall.
Return options
You can return by the same route. Alternatively, you can head towards Cachoeira do Tiburtino, Cachoeira da Piabinha and the Sempre-Viva Project, all located in the Mucugê Municipal Park.
Another alternative is to walk up the Cumbucas River, passing seven waterfalls with fountains at different points, to the Funis Water waterfall, and return by another trail.
2. Bom Jardim Waterfall (30m) – Itaetê
The Bom Jardim Waterfall is located 30 kilometres from the town of Andaraí and 8 kilometres from the village of Colônia, which belongs to the municipality of Itaetê.
Access to the waterfall
Access to the waterfall is via a dirt road and a short trail of about 150 metres. This path offers direct contact with nature and guarantees a refreshing swim for all those who visit the Serra do Ginete.
3. Mosquito Waterfall (70m) in Lençóis
With a beautiful waterfall in the middle of large rock walls, the Mosquito Waterfall combines beautiful scenery with easy access and no need for a guide.
Origin of the name
The name of the Mosquito Waterfall dates back to the time when small diamonds were found in the ground, called mosquitos by the prospectors. Located 40 kilometres from Lençóis, the waterfall stands out among the greenery of the Chapada Diamantina.
Viewpoint and access
A stop at the viewpoint on the road will give you an idea of the size of the place. Be sure to take a photo! The view is magnificent. Access to Cachoeira do Mosquito begins by car, and much of the road is tarmac.
When you arrive at the entrance to the private property where the waterfall is located – Complexo Turístico Fazenda Santo Antônio – you’ll see a house with a delicious regional restaurant. If it’s lunchtime, take the opportunity to try some of the local cuisine. From this point the road is a dirt track. At the end, a car park marks the start of the trail.
The trail
The walk to Mosquito Waterfall is almost entirely one long flight of steps. With a little effort, it will be easy to get over the steps and reach the edge of the waterfall, which is 70 metres high. The descent takes no more than twenty minutes. When you arrive, take off your shoes to walk over the water and enjoy the beauty of the Mosquito Waterfall, one of the most beautiful and accessible in the entire Chapada Diamantina.

With easy access and beautiful scenery, there’s no reason not to visit the Mosquito Waterfall in Chapada Diamantina. It is located 40 kilometres from Lençóis and does not require a guide to visit.
Don’t worry about doubling up on the repellent. The name of the waterfall actually refers to the small diamonds found there by prospectors, who nicknamed these gems mosquitoes because of their tiny size.
The waterfall is impressive even before you reach it. There is a viewpoint on the access road where you can see the waterfall from afar. It’s worth stopping to take a photo and admire the beauty that lies before you.
The road is partly tarmac and then dirt. There is a stop at a private property, the Fazenda Santo Antônio Tourist Complex, which has a restaurant, toilets and a hammock. It’s worth stopping for lunch and a rest on the way back.
The path is almost all stairs. The descent takes an average of 20 minutes. At the end of the descent, visitors will be able to see the imposing 70-metre high waterfall.
4. Moendas Waterfall (70m) – Ituaçu
The Waterfall of Moendas is one of the natural jewels of the Ituaçu region of Bahia, and stands out not only for its impressive height, with more than 70 metres of waterfall, but also for the scenic beauty that surrounds it.

6. Buracão Waterfall (85m) in Ibicoara.
Ask any tourist or guide in the Chapada Diamantina region which waterfall you can’t miss, and the answer will surely be the Buracão Waterfall. So many recommendations are definitely not in vain.
Breathtaking views
The Buracão Waterfall offers impressive views and a unique experience. The sensation of swimming through an imposing, narrow gorge, three metres wide and ninety metres high, and at the end seeing an immense waterfall reveal itself with each stroke, is truly magical.
Access and itinerary
Located in the municipality of Ibicoara, the trail to the waterfall is easy, just three kilometres along the banks of the Rio Espalhado, but a local guide is a must. On the way, you’ll pass by other waterfalls, such as Buracãozinho, Orquídeas and Recanto Verde. Beautiful, but nothing compared to Buracão.
Arrival at the canyon
The detail is that when you reach the entrance, you can’t see the waterfall.
First you have to go through the gorge in the shape of a curve. There are two options: either walk against the walls or swim through them.
The second option is undoubtedly the coolest and most special. After putting on your life jacket, it’s time to plunge into the dark, frothy water (the result of the organic remains of the forest).
Swimming and the waterfall
All you have to do is swim calmly against the current and make your way through the canyon until you gradually see the waterfall. It’s thrilling to come face to face with a dazzling 85 metre high waterfall in a huge rocky crevice, and when you reach it, it really does wash your soul clean.
7. Ramalho Waterfall (90 metres) in Andaraí.
The Ramalho Waterfall is one of the most majestic attractions in the municipality of Andaraí.
Access and route
From the town of Andaraí, a moderate trail of approximately 5.5 kilometres leads to the top of the waterfall. Along the way, visitors can enjoy beautiful natural scenery.

15. Fumaça Waterfall (385 metres) in the Vale do Capão.
The 385 metre high Cachoeira da Fumaça is the second highest waterfall in Brazil.
Its name refers to the effect caused by the force of the wind, which prevents the water from reaching the base, creating a kind of smoke with the droplets that are sprayed upwards. However, the charm of the Fumaça Waterfall goes beyond its height.
The path to the waterfall
The path to the waterfall in Vale do Capão is an attraction and a challenge in itself. There are two ways to get to Cachoeira da Fumaça: from the top, which is the most common and easiest and takes one day, and from the bottom, which is the most difficult and exhausting and takes three days.
Upper path
It’s worth pointing out that the Upper Trail is not necessarily an easy walk.
In total, there are 12 kilometres of trail, round trip, and the first two kilometres are a steep climb that requires a certain amount of stamina. However, there are several stops to rest and enjoy the beautiful views over the Capão Valley.
After this initial stretch, the next four kilometres are flatter and quieter, with several stream crossings.
After two hours, you reach the viewpoint from where you can see the waterfall and confirm the explanation for its name. From so high up, the water comes down in the form of smoke blown by the wind.
