Fernando de Noronha Beaches: A complete guide
Fernando de Noronha is an archipelago of stunning beaches, each with its own unique characteristics. Some are ideal for snorkelling, others for swimming, observation, surfing and other activities.

Geographical division: Inner Sea and Outer Sea
The beaches of Noronha are divided into two regions:
- Inner Sea: Facing Brazil, with calmer waters between April and November, ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
- Outer Sea: Facing the Atlantic Ocean, with rougher seas that favour surfing, especially between January and February.
Beaches of the Inner Sea
- Baía e Porto de Santo Antônio: Natural anchorage used as a port for unloading boats. Next to the Santo Antônio Fortress, an important historical site on the island.
- Praia da Biboca: Located below the Fortaleza dos Remédios, it is formed by black rocks of volcanic origin. It is not recommended for swimming, but it is possible to walk around it at low tide.
- Praia do Cachorro: Located near Vila dos Remédios, it has a freshwater spring and a natural pool known as Buraco do Galego.
- Praia do Meio: A small beach between Cachorro and Conceição, with calm waters at low tide and rough waters at high tide.
- Praia da Conceição (Italcable): At the foot of Morro do Pico, this is one of the most popular beaches, with a long stretch of sand and good waves for surfing at high tide.
- Praia do Boldró: Next to the old Teleguided Observation Post, it has waves suitable for surfing and the São Pedro do Boldró Fort as a viewpoint.
- Praia do Americano: Small and deserted, it was reserved for military use in the past. Today it is sought after by those seeking privacy.
- Bode Beach: Accessible by a stone path, it has natural pools and a large rock that serves as a viewpoint.
- Praia da Quixabinha: A small beach between Bode and Cacimba do Padre, excellent for swimming at low tide.
- Praia da Cacimba do Padre: One of the largest beaches, famous for the Dois Irmãos hill. Excellent for surfing and snorkelling.
- Baía dos Porcos: Small and surrounded by rocks, it forms natural pools with colourful fish, with Morro Dois Irmãos in the background.
- Baía do Sancho: Considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, with crystal clear waters and rich marine life. Access via stairs between cracks in the rock.
- Dolphin Bay (Enseada do Carreiro de Pedra): A place where spinner dolphins mate and rest. Access to the bay is forbidden, but the dolphins can be seen from the Dolphin Lookout.
Outer sea beaches
- Praia do Leão: Known for the large number of sea turtle nests, especially of the green turtle species. Access is restricted after 6pm during the nesting season.
- Ponta das Caracas: An area with natural pools between the rocks, currently with restricted access due to the dangers of the descent.
- Baía do Sueste: With calm seas, this is one of the best places for snorkelling and sea turtle watching. It has the only mangrove forest on an oceanic island in the South Atlantic.
- Praia de Atalaia: With controlled access, only 30 people can enter at a time. At low tide it forms a large natural pool rich in marine life.
- Enseada da Caeira: An area of natural pools surrounded by dunes, with steep and controlled access.
- Buraco da Raquel: A tranquil area with shallow pools and colourful fish. Access is forbidden for environmental reasons.
- Ponta da Air France: Historic site where the French settled in the 1920s. It is not a bathing area, but offers a view of the meeting of Mar de Dentro and Mar de Fora.
