1. Rio de Ondas
Located just a few minutes from the city centre, the Rio de Ondas is Barreiras’ natural postcard.
Its crystal-clear waters form natural waves thanks to the rocky bed, creating the ideal setting for activities such as boiacross (descent in rubber boats) and canoeing.
With a length of 144 kilometres, the river attracts visitors all year round, especially at weekends, when you can choose between relaxing on the banks or tackling the moderate rapids on trips lasting up to two hours.
The local infrastructure includes rustic restaurants serving typical dishes such as grilled surubim – freshwater fish – and acarajé, a Bahian delicacy that matches the relaxed atmosphere of the place.
2. Acaba Vida Waterfall
Located 58 km from Barreiras, the Acaba Vida Waterfall impresses with its 36 metre free fall, surrounded by preserved vegetation and rock formations.
Access is via the BR-020 motorway, with a final stretch of 1 km on a dirt road, adding to the unspoilt nature of the site.
The spring, fed by the Rio de Janeiro (a local tributary, not to be confused with the state river), forms a natural pool of transparent water, ideal for a refreshing swim.
3. Redondo Waterfall
20 km from the Acaba Vida Waterfall, the Redondo Waterfall features a rounded waterfall and a natural pool 3 metres deep.
Access is also by dirt road, maintaining the rustic atmosphere of the region. Both waterfalls are linked by trails, perfect for hiking and observing the local fauna and flora.
4. Culture and festivities in Barreiras
In addition to its natural beauty, the city is alive with traditional festivals such as the Divine Holy Spirit Festival and São João, celebrated with typical food, live music and quadrilhas, reflecting the culture of the countryside.
