1. Barra de Punaú
Barra de Punaú is one of the most stunning settings where the river meets the sea, creating an ideal environment to watch the sunset.
The dark waters of the river meet Zumbi beach, known for its natural pools. These spots are perfect for activities such as diving, sailing and canoeing.
A tour of the region can include walks to the fishing villages, where you can appreciate the local handicrafts, especially the labyrinth lace.
2. Lagoa da Mutuca
Lagoa da Mutuca is a refreshing stopover, located in a private area and accessible only to authorised persons. Larger than a football pitch, the lagoon is fed by rainwater and offers a peaceful environment, ideal for relaxing and observing the rich local biodiversity.
3. Zumbi Beach
Zumbi Beach, located just 2 km from Barra de Punaú, is known for its open and calm sea, ideal for swimming, with waves that rarely exceed one metre.
It is a quiet, unspoilt beach surrounded by coconut groves and dunes. Its location 70 kilometres from Natal makes it an accessible option for visitors.
4. Rio do Fogo Beach
At Rio do Fogo Beach, the sea is calm and looks like a “swimming pool”, ideal for those seeking tranquillity. The water temperature is around 27ºC and the beach is shaded by coconut trees, providing a pleasant environment in which to relax.
The colour of the water is reddish due to the local vegetation, and when the tide comes in there is a mixture of salt and fresh water, creating a unique experience.
Kayaking and Stand-up paddle boarding are popular in the area, as are activities such as zip-lining and quad biking along the beach.
How to get there
Rio do Fogo RN borders the municipalities of Touros, Maxaranguape and Pureza and is located 13 km southeast of Touros, the largest town in the area.
