
Ivete Sangalo was born in Juazeiro, in the interior of Bahia, into a family of musicians. She started singing as a child and, at school, took advantage of her breaks to play the guitar.
At family soirees, he played percussion. He moved to Salvador when he was 17 and worked as a model, but couldn’t resist the passion for music that had always been his dream.
He started out, like most people, playing in pubs and then played a few gigs in towns in the interior of Bahia, even performing in Pernambuco. In his hometown, he was invited to open Geraldo Azevedo’s show at the João Gilberto Culture Centre theatre.
Back in the capital of Bahia, she was invited to take part in a micareta in the town of Morro do Chapéu.

There she met producer Jonga Cunha, founder of Bloco Eva. Ivete’s reign with Banda Eva began, with which she released six albums, selling more than four million copies.
Currently Ivete Sangalo’s solo career has sold 6,500,000 discs to date. Earlier, in 1992, the artist won the Dorival Caymmi trophy for best interpreter.
Her solo career officially began at the end of Ash Wednesday 1999, her last Carnival with Banda Eva. Between April, May and June of that year, she recorded the 14 tracks on her debut solo CD, Ivete Sangalo.
She then released Beat Beleza, starting her national tour in Salvador. She always starts in the capital of Bahia, as she is keen to emphasise, in the same exhibition park where she released her third solo CD Festa at the end of 2001.
In August 2003, she released her fourth solo CD, Clube Carnavalesco, Inocentes em Progesso. In March 2004, he released the CD MTV Ao Vivo Ivete Sangalo.
In 2005, AS SUPERNOVAS. Like everything with Ivete’s touch, the new disc is fun, spontaneous, extroverted, but at the same time sensual, as you can see from the photos and the cover, which was inspired by features from the 70s and 80s.
In 2006, Ivete Sangalo won the awards for Best Singer and Best Song with the great ballad QUANDO A CHUVA PASSAR, a hit in Brazil and Portugal on Domingão do Faustão.
Ivete is voted personality of the year by Isto É Gente magazine.
Multishow Live: Ivete at the Maracanã is the best-selling DVD in the world on the Universal Music label, with over 750,000 copies sold, and so far the best-selling DVD in the history of Brazilian music.
