Beaches in Maceió

The beaches furthest from Maceió‘s waterfront are the locals’ favourites, such as Garça Torta Beach, Pratagi Beach and Guaxuma Beach, all in the northern part of the city.

Praia da Guaxuma stands out for its more affordable kiosks compared to the central beaches.

These options are perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the more touristy beaches, such as Pajuçara and Ponta Verde.

São Miguel dos Milagres

Approximately 99 kilometres from Maceió, São Miguel dos Milagres is a tourist town that stands out on the so-called Milagres Ecological Route.

This fishing village, with a single main street and a few hamlets, offers charming tourism, characterised by personalised experiences.

A must is the Raft trip through the natural pools of Praia do Toque.

This tour takes around two hours and many guides offer snorkelling equipment so that visitors can dive and see fish in the crystal clear waters.

It is advisable to start the tour at the earliest time of day according to the tide table, as the pools tend to fill up after this time.

Porto de Pedras

Separated from São Miguel dos Milagres by a simple road, Porto de Pedras is a small fishing village.

The locals watch the streets go by from the windows of their houses, adding to the picturesque scenery.

One recommendation for visitors is to explore the community-based tourism promoted by the Manatee Association.

You can see the manatees on a raft trip on the Tatuamunha River, where the animals are kept by the Costa dos Corais Animal Protection Association (APA), part of the ICMBio (Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation), linked to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA).

The Porto de Pedras Viewpoint is also worth a visit.

To get there, simply walk up a steep street near the old prison, using the lighthouse as a reference point. From the top, you can see the mouth of the Manguaba River, and the view becomes even more stunning in summer, when the water is crystal clear.
